We are very pleased and honored to let you know that Professor Paul Romer (New York University, Nobel Prize in Economics Laureate 2018) will give us an online speech at the Yu Gwo-Hwa memorial seminar series in 孫運璿演講廳(Sun Yun-Suan Lecture Hall) at 7:30pm on Thursday October 27^th, 2022.

Prof. Romer is a world-renowned authority on the role of technological innovation and spillovers in economic growth. In 2018, Prof. Romer received Nobel Prize for his research “for integrating technological innovations into long-run macroeconomic analysis”. 

Prof. Romer currently serves as University Professor of Economics and Law at New York University (NYU). Prior to coming to NYU, Paul taught at Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Chicago, and University of Rochester.

In addition to his academic achievement, Prof. Romer has made numerous contributions to public policy, including serving as the Chief Economist at The World Bank and writing an opinion for the United States Justice Department on the Microsoft Antitrust ruling, serving on the Singaporean Prime Minister’s Independent Academic Advisory Panel on University Policy, and consulting for a host of other governments and legislators on policy initiatives tied to education, urbanization, science, technology, and innovation. Romer has also been speaking about Big Tech's role in promoting misinformation and how that affects society and the economy. Prof. Romer has also founded Aplia (which was sold to Cengage Learning in 2007), an education technology company dedicated to increasing student effort and classroom engagement.

很高興與您分享一個有關俞國華紀念演講系列的好消息：紐約大學Paul Romer教授(2018諾貝爾經濟學獎得主)將於111年10月27日(星期四)晚間7:30於孫運璿演講廳進行線上演說。

Paul Romer教授是經濟學權威，而其科技創新與外溢效果之於經濟成長的效果的研究廣為人所知。在諾貝爾經濟學獎的讚詞中，Paul Romer教授以其將科技創新整合入總體經濟長期成長的分析而得獎。

Paul Romer教授現為紐約大學經濟與法律教授，在加入紐約大學前，他任教於史丹佛大學、加州大學柏克萊分校、芝加哥大學、與羅徹斯特大學。除了學術成就外，Paul Romer教授也積極參與政策相關議題，他曾擔任世界銀行首席經濟學家，為美國法務部撰寫有關微軟之違反反托拉斯法的專家意見；擔任新加坡總理之大學政策之獨立學術顧問團，以及為許多政府、立法組織與國際組織提供教育、都市化、科學、技術與創新之相關意見。他也針對大型科技公司在提供錯誤資訊與影響社會與經濟的行為上提出許多獨立見解。在商業上，他參與創辦一間教育科技公司Aplia，該企業致力於提升學生學習與課堂參與(於2007年被Cengage Learning 購併)。
