Department of Economics

National Tsing Hua University enjoys the reputation of a democratic spirit
and a highly scholastic environment. Consequently, the Department of Economics,
established in 1984, has developed the unique tradition of being democratic and
progressive. The department currently has 17 full time faculty members, all
received Ph.D degrees from internationally renowned universities and are
committed to a rigorous analytical approach to both teaching and research.
Engaged in congenial and cooperative atmosphere, our faculty members actively
involve in other colleagues’ research.
The energetic economics program of the Department of Economics provides such
distinguishing fields as economics of sociology, environmental economics, law
and economics, new economic history, economic organization, public choice,
constitutional political economy, economic analysis on globalization and
entrepreneurship. In addition, the department offers conventional curriculums in
microeconomics, macroeconomics, money and banking, public finance, industrial
organization, labor economics, and international trade etc. To enhance job
opportunities of our students, the department takes the responsibility in
offering courses with business perspectives, such as accounting, financial
market, futures and financial derivatives, and business law to both economics
and non-economics majors at Tsing Hua. The undergraduate and graduate (both M.A.
and Ph.D.) programs in Economics aim at both theory and application. The
department has moved into the newly established “College of Technology
Management” in 2005. This adjustment of the department can not only shed new
lights on economics research but also provide students with an excellent
education in economics as a foundation for general understanding of the world.
