Center for Science and Technology Policy (CSTP)

The Center for Science and Technology Policy (CSTP) is a research institute established at College of Technology Management, National Tsing Hua University to conduct research and provide education in the fields of technology policy and national innovation systems. Its main mission includes: analysis of economic, managerial and societal impacts of technology policy and industrial innovations. Individual research projects will be grouped to create new synergies among related theoretical, empirical and policy research.

CSTP research is organised along four lines which represented a combination of different analytical and empirical approaches contributing to its overall research mission.
Theme I: Support System for Policy Modelling
Theme II: Science and Technology Policy in the Catching- up Economies
Theme III: Regional Innovation Systems
Theme IV: Science Parks and Research Institutes

The objective of the Center is to develop into an independent scientific 'centre of excellence' where researchers of diverse disciplines, interested in the environmental, industrial, and social impacts of science and technology policy, conduct theoretical, empirical and policy-relevant research. The Center focuses on mission-oriented research projects to support policy makers for effective policy decision-making. By bringing elites and opinion leaders from government, academia, industry, and research institutes through a series of technology policy forums, focus groups, and conferences, the Center can develop empirically based theories and action oriented models that can provide timely and useful suggestions for policy makers.

The Center also supports policy makers and industrial firms in catching-up economies by providing relevant and high quality research and services by way of basic research, education programs, applied research, consultancy and publications. The Center pursues high standards of academic excellence while it will maintain unqualified independence in the fields of technology policy and innovation systems. By building collaborative networks of researchers, policy-makers and businesses across the world, the Center can disseminate our findings and views through a regular flow of publications and public events. Specifically, the Center will become the leading research center and education program of technology policy and innovation systems and serve as one of the world-class think tanks with academic reputation that makes significant contributions to the body of knowledge.
